Discovering New Things About Myself

Scripture: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” —Psalm 139:23–24 (NIV)
For most of my adult life, I thought I had myself figured out. I was confident I was an Enneagram 8—assertive, direct, a challenger. And for years, I lived from that script. But one day, in the middle of some serious inner work, something shifted. After prayer, reflection, and a few honest conversations, I realized I was actually an Enneagram 3.
It hit me hard. The image I had built—this strong, bold, always-ready leader—wasn’t wrong, but it wasn’t the whole truth. Beneath the surface, I was a performer, always trying to achieve, to be seen, to be enough. That realization didn't shame me—it freed me. It gave God more space to shape me into someone grounded not in image, but in identity.
Another surprise? I’ve spent years believing I was a full-on extrovert. But after multiple social situations left me exhausted and mentally drained, I began to notice something new: I recharge in solitude. I need silence and space to feel whole. Maybe I'm more introverted than I thought—and that's not a flaw. It's part of how God made me.
The truth is, self-discovery is part of spiritual maturity. Letting God reveal hidden places, update old assumptions, and speak new truths about who we are is sacred. It's not about changing our identity—it’s about uncovering it in Christ.
Reflection Questions:
What assumptions about yourself might God be inviting you to re-examine?
How has your past shaped your self-perception—for better or worse?
Where do you sense God leading you into deeper understanding of who you really are?
Prayer: God, thank you for knowing me better than I know myself. Keep peeling back the layers and showing me who I am in you. Help me release old labels, outdated assumptions, and false expectations. I want to live from identity, not performance. Shape me in truth and love. Amen.
